Pupdates

Dear Lifesaving Friends,

August was yet another busy month, and things aren’t slowing down in September! Save the date for our largest fundraiser of the year, Big Give, which takes place September 22 – September 23. Be sure to watch our impactful Big Give video made by our loyal friend, Carlos. Please share with your friends and family to help us reach our BIG goal! Early giving is now open!

Sally is one of our beautiful pups that recently came into our care. She was on the city shelter’s euthanasia list on September 1, and we knew we had to help her. Your heart will shatter into a million pieces when you see Sally and the amount of discomfort she is currently in.

Sally is a small 17-pound Chihuahua with a large baseball-size mass under her jaw. Her veterinarian diagnosed her with periodontal disease, causing infection and inflammation of the gums and bone surrounding her teeth, salivary mucocele, an accumulation of saliva leaked from an injured salivary gland, and confirmed that the large mass under Sally's jaw needs to be removed. Sally is also taking medication to reduce inflammation. The total cost of her medical care is estimated to be $750. If you’d like to make a gift to help cover the cost of Sally’s medical care, please click the button below.

We are extremely grateful to have you by our side. We couldn’t do this work without the support of our donors, fosters, and rescue partners!

You Made this Possible!

In August, there were six Code Reds, 25 or more dogs and puppies were on the city shelter’s euthanasia list on a given day. SAPA!’s team, adopters, fosters, and rescue partners helped 189 dogs and puppies on the city euthanasia lists in August. Our locations continue to be full, and we are always in need of fosters to help us save lives!

Foster of the Month - Adelita Clemones

Congratulations to our wonderful foster, Adelita Clemones, for being nominated by San Antonio Pets Alive!'s foster team as our September foster of the month!

Adelita has been fostering puppies since 2018. She is always willing to take in just one more pup, especially when we urgently need it. Our foster coordinator Shelly said, "Adelita is great! She does a great job talking to potential adopters and other fosters. You can tell she really cares about the animals and wants them all to find loving homes."

We are thankful for Adelita and all she does for the animals in our community.

Kennel Sponsors

Melinda Dominguez has volunteered for San Antonio Pets Alive! for many years. She and her husband Arturo recently decided to help out even more by being a Kennel Sponsor. Melinda wanted to provide a safe place for dogs to recover from severe medical issues. The Dominguez family has two dogs, Kylo & Mabel. Thank you Arturo and Melinda and our many Kennel Sponsors!

Their plaque reads: “A diamond in the ruff” Get well soon! -Arturo & Melinda Dominguez

Long Stay Animals

San Antonio Pets Alive! has many cats and dogs that have been with us for more than 200 days. We have launched our "Forget Me Not" campaign highlighting our long-stay animals to help find them their forever family.

Mary Lou has an award winning smile! She is house trained and doesn't bark in the house. She likes to go on walks, or if there's a yard available she loves to explore and lay out in the sun when the temps allow.

Theodore was treated for Panleuk at our Medical Care Center. He received the necessary treatment, and has fully recovered in a loving foster home! Now Theodore is ready to find his forever family!
