Letter from the Executive Director: COVID-19

March 2020

Dear SAPA! Supporters,

In light of COVID-19, San Antonio Pets Alive! needs your help more than ever.  With so much uncertainty in our community and world right now, we need emergency gifts to ensure we have critical operating funding so COVID-19 does not hurt or stop our lifesaving mission.

Our goal is to raise $10,000.

We currently have 132 dogs and cats at Petco and PetSmart adoption centers, Medical Clinic and Building One @ Animal Care Services and 433 in foster care.

Please do not forget about the animals during this time, they need us more than ever.

Will you help us secure shelter resources and continue saving dogs and cats from euthanasia at the city municipal shelter?

We urgently need money for:

  1. Lifesaving medicines.

We need to make sure our sick dogs and cats at our medical clinic do not suffer due to COVID-19, so to stay prepared we need to make a medicine order to last four weeks.

  1. Supplies.

While cleanliness is always an utmost importance to us, it is even more important for our patrons.  We need large orders of bleach, disinfectant, among other supplies for our four locations.

  1. General operating.

The Big Give was postponed for six months, this is our second largest fundraiser of the year and we were expecting to raise $70,000 this month with this campaign.  We need your support to make sure our staff and animals are taken care of during this hard time.

We also need fosters!

We need fosters to open up their homes during this time.  It’s a great time to add a companion to your home.  We need our dogs and cats out of our facilities and into foster homes in the case we lose access to our adoption centers or if my team becomes ill and is unable to care for our pets.  If you are interested in fostering, please fill out an application here.  If you are already an approved foster, please email foster@sanantoniopetsalive.org.  Thank you!

My team is still boots on the ground at the city municipal shelter, our medical clinic and our two adoption centers.  We are committed to saving lives and will continue to even in these uncertain times.
Thank you for your continued support and help during this trying time.
To save animals’ lives,
Rebecca Mayberry
