COVID-19: Program Operations Changes

March 2020

Dear fosters, volunteers and adopters,

We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and shifting to adhere to CDC guidelines.  To ensure the health of our staff and fosters, we are implementing the following changes until further notice to reduce person-to-person interaction:

1.  Foster Program

We are in need of fosters opening up their home to our animals, so we have created a delivery assistance program to eliminate all barriers for animals to enter foster care.  This high-paced program lets volunteers deliver foster animals and/or pet food to fosters who are unable to travel due to COVID-19.

To have a have a foster pet or food delivered to you, the process is quite simple:
1) Fill out the foster application HERE (if you are not already an approved foster)
2) Go to the sign-up form HERE and indicate YOUR SIDE OF TOWN
3) A volunteer delivery driver will be matched to you to bring you the foster animal or food.

Your volunteer delivery driver will be dropping off the pet or food on your doorstep.

NEEDED: Delivery volunteers.
Want to help San Antonio Pets Alive! in a powerful way? Sign up to deliver foster animals or food to fosters in your area!

How can you help?
1) Fill out the foster application HERE (volunteers must fill out foster app to transport animals)
2) Go to the sign-up form HERE and indicate YOUR SIDE OF TOWN
3) Be matched with a foster in your area to deliver the special foster animal or necessary food!

For additional questions, please email foster@sanantoniopetsalive.org.

2. Bi-weekly Wellness Clinics:

Our bi-weekly wellness clinics for vaccinations, dewormer, preventatives, microchips, combo tests and nail trims will continue on schedule.  However, when you arrive please stay in your cars and email shot-clinic-coordinator@sanantoniopetsalive.org that you are on-site.  Our SAPA! staff and volunteers will come to you.
Our next Wellness Clinic is March 26th from 1 to 3 PM at Pet Supplies Plus off San Pedro. For updates, please join our Foster Forum Facebook Page.
3. Medical Clinic Appointments:
Our medical clinic will be moving to an appointment only, drive thru system.  For our medical clinic drive thru, fosters will drive to the back of the clinic shopping center to our clinic door (see map below for directions), where a SAPA! staff member will come to your car and assist you. You must book your appointment in advance (one animal per slot) using our Medical Clinic Drive Thru Appointment form HERE.

*All appointment cancellations must done 24 hours ahead of time.*

As always, if you have an emergency please email appointments@sanantoniopetsalive.org or fostermedical@sanantoniopetsalive.org.

4. Adoptions
We will be conducting adoptions in a more remote manner.

That after a successful meet and greet and a foster finds a family for their foster animal, instead of everyone meeting on-site to finalize the adoption, please email adopt@sanantoniopetsalive.org. Laurie, our offsite adoption counselor, can call and finalize the preadopt remotely.

For larger dogs and meet and greets, we encourage fosters to go to a mutally determined, open-air location to conduct the meet and greet and then adoption can be completed by phone by emailing adopt@sanantoniopetsalive.org OR just the adopter can go into a facility to complete the adoption. We simply ask the foster to forewarn SAPA! staff by emailing adopt@sanantoniopetsalive.org and include the adopter name/facility they are going to/animal name and ID.

If you have any questions, please reach out to adopt@sanantoniopetsalive.org.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding of these temporary changes as we are working to protect the SAPA! village.  Thank you for fostering and helping us save lives.  Please feel free to reach out to me (krystina.chandler@sanantoniopetsalive.org), my foster team (foster@sanantoniopetsalive.org) or medical team (appointments@sanantoniopetsalive.org) with any questions.

Sincerely,

Krystina Chandler
Director of Operations, San Antonio Pets Alive!
