As a foster parent, you have access to a number of resources that will help to make your foster experience successful. If you ever have any questions and/or concerns about your foster animal, please email the Foster Team:

If you are a brand new foster and not sure where to start, we highly recommend checking the animals that we have at our Paul Jolly Center for Pet Adoptions! These dogs have been in our care for a while, so they have passed their quarantine and we can provide you with more insight into their personality and temperament.

Routine Medical Care:

You are responsible for ensuring that your animal receives routine and preventative medical care. However, if the team has not contacted you and you know that a vaccine or other medical need is due, please contact the Scheduling Team at If you have any other medical questions, please contact the Foster Medical Team at

Spay/Neuter Scheduling:

All SAPA animals over 2 months of age, weighing 2lbs (and healthy) must be spayed or neutered. Please email, with your fosters ID #’s, names and weights to get an appointment.  All surgery requests will be answered within 72 hours.  If you have any medical concerns please email 

Getting Your Foster Adopted:

Finding a permanent home for a foster animal is a collaborative process between SAPA and the foster parent. Foster parents are encouraged to market their foster animal on their own, but all adoptions must be completed using SAPA adoption procedures with a certified SAPA Adoption Counselor.

Marketing – As soon as possible, please send updated photos and personality info about your foster dog or cat to: so we can begin marketing your foster pet. If you have any questions, please contact:

Events – Adoption events are a great way to get your foster animal adopted.  These are often held at local pet stores or animal-friendly venues in the community.  To view the upcoming events please go to our events calendar ( or email for more information.

Foster Behavior Issues:

If your foster dog is exhibiting behaviors that concern you, please contact as soon as possible. We also have an extensive list of resources for our fosters experiencing behavior concerns, which can be found HERE.
