Urgent Need for Large Dog Adopters or Fosters at SAPA!
Cages are Full, Puppies that enter ACS are Dying because of No Room in the SAPA Shelter
Fall Crisis: San Antonio Pets Alive! is reaching out to the community for help in saving nice dogs. Each dog at the San Antonio Pets Alive! kennel at ACS holds 1-2 adult dogs or 4-6 puppies. Almost all of our kennels are full of sweet, nice adult dogs which means that we have run out of room for puppies and small breed dogs that come into ACS and need our help. Puppies only get hours before they are euthanized and our life saving operations have come to a screeching halt because we are out of room.
In the last few days there has been a surge in puppies being dropped off at ACS and they face imminent death without our help.
“The fall is always a slow adoption time of year, which means as animals keep coming in, fewer are getting out. We are asking citizens to try to make room for an adult dog and save multiple lives by doing so. Each kennel that is freed up means that up to SIX puppies could be saved. The life saving impact is exponential.” said Dr. Jefferson, San Antonio Pets Alive Executive Director.
How YOU can help us prevent puppies getting killed today, Friday October 5th:
- Adopt an adult dog today for FREE - we have beautiful, fabulous adult dogs that have done nothing wrong to end up where they have. Adult dogs are often times much easier to housetrain and manage than puppies. Since they are often overlooked by adopters in favor of puppies, they show a life time of gratitude to their adopters.
-Pick up a foster today! Just get in your car and come to SAPA, Building #1, Campus of ACS, 4710 Highway 151 and pick one out. To be prepared, fill out the Foster Application by putting your mouse over “Foster” on our homepage, and clicking on ‘application’. Fill it out and submit, then come on down to our location.

First step should be to educate the community. Most people do not have any idea how to rise a dog or a cat-they throw it to the backyard; no shade or water on the shade to keep it cool! I have seen everything since I used to rescue dogs. Organizations should find a way to get to children through school activities; churches; summer camps and so on. Educate the community about having them spayed or nurtured. Pets need love and attention like we do. Peace.
Thanks for sharing this post. Adopting dogs is really helpful. In this way, dogs in the street will be lessened. Keep posting!
